Rostock is the largest city in the north German state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The economy is strongly influenced by tourism, the University of Rostock and maritime industries (especially shipbuilding) and the service sector. Rostock is home to one of the oldest universities in the world. Rostock's port is Germany's largest Baltic port. Rostock is also home to a large ferry port.
