Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a market town in Bavaria, southern Germany, in the Oberbayern region, not far from the border with Austria. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a favored holiday spot for skiing, snowboarding, and hiking. Garmisch-Partenkirchen was the birthplace of Michael Ende, author of The Neverending Story, and was also home to composer Richard Strauss.
