Aachen is a historic spa city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Aachen has a large number of spin-offs from the university's IT-technology department and is a major centre of IT development in Germany. The Aachen Cathedral was erected on the orders of Charlemagne in 786 AD and was on completion the largest dome north of the Alps.
